Children
The Museum helps children in so many ways through our many programs.

TOY INVENTION PROGRAMS
The Museum offers FREE public library programs to help children of all ages think about toy invention as a creative outlet from their day to day activities or as a potential career opportunity. The program is also available to participating  public schools.
Hundreds of students have participated in this program.

FREE ADMISSION FOR ALL
Admission to any of the Museum's NYC library exhibits are FREE enabling children of all ages to enjoy the museum exhibit experience.
Over 40,000 visitors have seen the exhibits annually.

THE MUSEUM'S GIVING PROGRAM
When the Museum receives gently used toys that do not fit into the Museum's permanent collection, they are donated to social service agencies, orphanages, hospitalized children, schools, other non profit organizations and to the underprivileged. (See list of organizations who  received donations in 2008 under "News & Events").
Hundreds of toys have been donated.

EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITIONS
The Traveling Exhibitions are designed and created with education as the primary focus. In each exhibit children can learn something about  history or language arts.  Thousands of children have seen the exhibits and have learned about The History of the Wright Brothers, The Invention of The Teddy Bear (named after President Theodore Roosevelt), and Colonial America, just to name a few.

LENDING "TOY LIBRARY" FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES
Pending the availability, students can borrow  items from the Museum's collection for reports and research papers. For example, one student was testing how plastic changed over time and wanted to borrow some vintage plastic toys.  Another student was doing a report on Gender in America and borrowed toys to help explain her thesis.
Both times the Museum was able to accommodate their needs.

TEDDY BEARS WIPE AWAY THE TEARS DONATION PROGRAM
When tragedy strikes the Museum tries to lend a hand by collecting and distributing toys to those affected by a disaster. On September 11, 2001, the Museum collected and distributed hundreds of teddy bears for children who witnessed the world trade centers collapse and to fire fighters and their families who lost loved ones. Hundreds of children and their families received cuddly teddy bears.

All of the museum's programs are supported in part from generous contributions from Con Edison, Independence Community Foundation, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, NYC Youth and Community Development,  NY State Education Department and from Museum Members and Supporters.
